The forward moving nature of Endlesss

Endlesss is designed to keep you in a forward motion and build on or remix previous ideas. As such, you will rarely start from nothing when jamming. The only exception is the very first Rifff that you made in your solo jam after logging in for the first time.

From then on, whenever you enter your solo jam (or any other jam for that matter), Endlesss will immediately select the latest Rifff for playback.

That doesn't mean that you always have to retain all of the previous layers in a new Rifff. In this article we will explain several ways to remove layers or start again with a blank slate.

Muting layers

The easiest way to remove something from the mix is to mute the layer in the mixer. Tap the layer (Mobile) or the enable button (Studio) to mute it. To commit this change in the Rifff, make sure to then click the "Create a new Rifff" button. This will create an exact duplicate of the current Rifff, the only difference being the now muted layer.

Of course you can mute all layers together which brings us to

Stop playback

If you mute all layers together Endlesss will stop playback. This is the exact same thing as tapping the Play/Pause symbol at the top or the Rifff itself to stop playback. Endlesss will keep going for a few more beats (as indicated by the visual metronome) before fully stopping.

The Rifff is still selected, the layers all present. But if you start playing something new and capturing it in a loop, the remaining layers will stay muted.

Cleaning up muted layers

The previous method will be enough in most cases when you want to start fresh. If you really want to clean things up some more, or don't want to include muted layers before posting something to the Rifff feed, you can fully remove the muted layers quite easily.

Let's say that you only want to keep one layer that is active and have muted the rest:

  1. Pick any FX
  2. Select the active layer
  3. Select all the muted layers
  4. Capture a loop of the active layer (make sure to wait for at least one repetition)

This will merge all layers together, though the muted ones won't contribute any audio. Now you're down to one layer.

Totally start from scratch

There is a way to recreate a completely empty Rifff similar to the first time you used Endlesss. First, close the app completely. After restarting, create a new Jam before anything else. The new jam will be completely empty and Endlesss won't have any Rifff to select. You can now start with a completely empty Rifff.
